RPS Women in Photography: The 40% Project
It’s been a real pleasure to be involved in The 40% Project, a celebration of the historic proportion of female MPs represented in the UK Parliament. It is the highest ever representation of women in the history of the Parliament! The project was created by the Royal Photographic Society’s Women in Photography group, and is pairing female photographers with 265 female MPs to document this monumental moment in time through a series of portraits.
I’ve had the honour of photographing two MPs. Firstly, I returned to my hometown in October 2025 to photograph Sureena Brackenridge MP, the Labour MP for Wolverhampton North East. This year, I was thrilled to photograph Mother of the House, social justice icon, and MP for Hackney North and Stoke Newington, The Rt. Hon. Diane Abbott.
It’s been great to see the different creative visions of the photographers involved in the project, and how they view these significant women. New portraits are regularly being added to the gallery, which you can check out HERE.
